Functieomschrijving

For an Initial Training Network (ITN) we are looking for a researcher, who has just finished her/his PhD studies, but has yet to pass her/his exam. The project entails the use of chemical reaction networks (CRNs) in core-shell microbeads for ultrasensitive chemical amplification.

In CReaNET there are a total of 15 researchers at partner institutes, who will closely collaborate to unravel design principles for chemical reaction networks, find pathways to modulate them from the outside, and develop them towards applications for ultrasensitive sensors and autonomous materials with time-programmed operation.

CReaNET, a training network which is built on the close interaction between academia and the private sector, will ensure a multifaceted view and a swift transfer of fundamental discoveries to applications. The intersectoral partner setting, together with the balanced training of research-related and transferable skills, will enhance the career perspectives of the ESRs in both the academic and non-academic sectors.

In this project we will develop CRNs embedded in microbeads for ultrasensitive detection of (latent) traces. Chemical reaction networks are ubiquitous in living systems and hold great promise for finding advanced production schemes towards high-value chemicals and for enabling future autonomous and adaptive materials.

Ministry of Justice and Security, Netherlands Forensic Institute

The Ministry of Justice and Security is responsible for maintaining the rule of law in the Netherlands, so that people can live together in freedom, regardless of their lifestyle or views. The Ministry is working towards a safer, more just society by giving people legal protection and, where necessary, intervening in their lives. We sometimes have to take radical measures: divesting parents of parental responsibility, for example, or putting convicted criminals in prison. We also give people new prospects: for example, we help prisoners return to society and provide support for victims of crime.

Netherlands Forensic Institute
The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice and Security and delivers high-quality forensic services with the help of state-of-the-art technology and science.

Driven NFI professionals focus their combined attention on the punctual delivery of understandable, objective and, when needed, multi-disciplinary forensic analyses in more than 30 research fields, such as DNA, pathology and toxicology, but also digital technology and weapons, for example. The results play an important role in detection, prosecution and legal cases. In all instances, the NFI is engaged in cases that have a direct influence on daily life.
