Candidate profile
The ideal candidate meets the following requirements:

• Taking a postgraduate (masters) study ideally in economics, environment, sustainability, circular economy, climate adaptation, economics, transport, urban planning, renewable energy or a related area at a recognized higher education institute in the Netherlands or studying abroad but having the Dutch nationality
• Is in the final stage of his/her studies, and the internship program is a requirement of the school program for their postgraduate degree
• Has technical knowledge on the subjects of sustainability, economics, and/or sustainable development goals
• Has good people and communicational skills with fluency in English
• Is analytical
• Has research skills
• Has technical writing skills
• Has computer skills, particularly in MS Office packages (word, powerpoint, outlook, excel)
• Ability to adapt to situations; willing to learn; self-starter but not presumptuous
• Has some knowledge of the Philippines and/or Southeast Asia
• Has cultural sensitivity/awareness
• Has organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills

The selection procedure includes letter selection and a selection interview. The selection interviews will take place in July 2022.

The internship programme shall also provide you with insights into the life of a Policy Officer for Trade and Economic Affairs and the Embassy’s diplomatic and consular work in general. You will gain valuable work experience that you can apply to your future career goals — whether in the government, academe, or the private sector. Moreover, you will build your experience in nation building and development studies.

Leeropdracht
Final Output: Circular Economy Case Studies in the Philippines
You will be assigned to do a special report on researching local governments and local companies which have done notable projects related to circular economy (e.g. solid waste management, renewable energy, water security, green transportation/logistics) or nature-based solutions, particularly those that adopt international best practices. Each “case study” will have a summary which contains a short description, implementing entity, location, project cost (if available), results, hurdles, and lessons learned. This report will help the Embassy to identify exemplary public and private sector entities that can be strategic partners for entry of Dutch expertise.

COVID-19
Momenteel werken alle rijksambtenaren i.v.m. de covid-19 pandemie gedeeltelijk thuis. Het is lastig te voorspellen wat de situatie zal zijn bij aanvang van de stage, maar het is goed om er rekening mee te houden dat je gedeeltelijk vanuit huis zal moeten werken. Daarbij word je uiteraard intensief begeleid door collega’s en is er veelvuldig contact.
